Dominion Day at the Huble Homestead

Arbor Bed and Breakfast  just had guest leave from Cambridge England this morning.  They are ardent bird watchers and extremely well travelled.  Yesterday they headed up Highway 97 from prince George to visit a destination they had researched on the internet - it was the Huble Homestead  which is located 40 kilometers north of Prince George, BC on Highway 97.

They were absolutely entralled with the restorations and particularly commented that the bonus is it was authentic and not "overdone".  They also appreciated that the Homestead was staffed with volunteers.  This is one of the many interesting daytrips close to Prince George and is included in the Golden Raven Tour.

On Dominion Day ( July 1) there are special celebrations at the Huble Homestead from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Barkerville  is Open for the 2011 Season!

Today, Barkerville is a historic site like no other...

Unlike many gold rush towns from this era - which have long disappeared - Barkerville remains a thriving place, rich in history and full of life.  You can tour the town with one of the colourful characters from Barkerville’s past, watch the notorious Judge Begbie strike fear into the hearts of history’s criminals, witness authentic gold rush theatre, and see a real Cornish Waterwheel in action.  Pan for gold with your family and friends, visit Barkerville’s well preserved Chinatown, and go back to school in the 1800s.  Or, learn about the town at your own pace by visiting our historic buildings and beautiful displays.  Our town's merchants, restaurants and accommodations will provide you with everything you need for a genuinely comfortable trip into the province's past.

Events that are planned for the 2011 season are  Theatre Royal Gala June 18th, Dominion Day Celebrations July 1, Arts Wells, July 29 - August 1,  Williams Creek Sports Day August 6,  and the Mid Autumn Festival August 20th .

New this year is the Barkerville Cowboy and Drover Jubilee September 9 - 11.
