New Restaurant in Prince George - Hummus Brothers Tapas Bar

A friend and I went out for our annual Pre-Christmas lunch and this year chose Hummus Brothers Tapas Bar.  This new eatery , that opened in the Spring of 2010, is very Vancouver both in decor and cuisine and is located on 4th Ave. just down from J.J. Springers.

My friend chose the "Daily Soup" that was a creamed roasted pepper with mascarpone cheese and a vegetarian panini -  both the presentation and food quality was first rate.  I was trying to eat within  my Weight Watchers plan and was pleased with the grilled shrimp salad with dressing on the side.

The big bonus was although the restaurant was busy it was not noisy and we were able to have a great visit.

This will definitely be a place that I will suggest to our guests at Arbor Bed and Breakfast !

Pidherny Trails gain Official Recreational Status

The Pidherny Trail system has been granted official recreational status.  This extensive trail system  (650 hectare) is adjacent to our Bed and Breakfast in Prince George BC.  We have used the trails for the last 13 years for walking, skiing, snowshoeing and dog walking BUT the main use is for mountain biking.


The Prince George Cycling Club has an extensive trail map on their website.  The area’s protected status is a result of the joint co-operation of the City of Prince George; the Prince George Cycling Club (PGCC); the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts; Ministry of Transport; Ministry of Forests, Ministry of Environment, First Nations; and the woodlot owner. Pidherny became popular two decades ago after the Nechako Ridge Trail Society started building trails there and the PGCC took on the project about four years ago.

BC Provincial Pond Hockey Series in Prince George BC

Prince George has been selected as the site of the Northern Regional Pond Hockey Championships and the second location in the BC Provincial Pond Hockey series! Players will lace up the skates for the inaugural launch of what will become an annual event in PG’s winter sporting line-up on January 14-16, 2011!

We loved the quiet, cosy atmosphere of Julie's Arbor B&B. We had a lovely evening munching on her wonderful cookies and watching movies she had provided, while staying warm by the gas fireplace. Furry the Cat is an International Model

Arbor Bed and Breakfast guests have many, many special talents. Recently we had competitive Ball Room Dancers from Holland and an environmental engineer from Israel.

The Dog Days of Summer!

Oliver and Shadow Arbor B&B's official greeters are taking it cool today in the backyard pool. They are never too sure it this is a BIG water dish of something to play in. Today the mercury is heading for 30C and thunderstorms so this was a fun thing to do. Oliver and Shadow are from Bondir Kennels in Calgary and are both a big hit with our guests.

Secretly they are hoping for a snowflake as they much prefer the cold to the ultra hot ... maybe it is the black colour. They say hi to all our guests that they have met.

The Ancient Forest near Prince George

There are many one day trips from Prince George . One of my favourites is the Ancient Cedar Forest. This ancient stand of Cedars dating up to 2000 years old was a surprise find by some Forestry Researchers from the University of Northern BC. The Cedars are towering with amazing gnarled branches reminiscent of the "Lord of the Rings". The trail takes about 2 hours return and is easy walking for the whole family. If you are staying in Prince George or traveling the Prince Rupert/Jasper Route this a highly recommended stop.

Summer is definitely here!

The temperature is 30C and Shadow (aka Perle Noire) is very happy to get her summer haircut. Both Shadow and Oliver went in today and I'm sure the groomer is still cleaning up. Oliver and Shadow are real hits at Arbor Bed and Breakfast! They take great pride in showing our guests true Northern Hospitality. Oliver and Shadow are both from Bondir Kennels in Calgary and are the most amazing English Springer Spaniels. Oliver, the older dog (9) is a Pet Therapy Dog and is certified through St. John's Ambulance. Time to go as it is almost 5pm and the "guys" get fed at exactly 5pm ... how do they know?????

The Pets of Arbor B&B in Prince George can Skype!!!

Last night our guest Raquel was Skyping with her parents in Brazil! She was enjoying our first warm evening with her toes in the Hot Tub and her fingers on the keyboard. Oliver and Shadow our two English Springer Spaniels always try to put their best paws forward and were more than willing to say hi to Raquel's parents - they were not too sure about the language though!! Furry our cat was a little less accommodating but never the less was coaxed into waving all the way to Brazil ( actually I think it was the proximity of the hot tub that put her off).

Spring is a month early!!!!

The sad news is skiing has ended a few weeks early but the good news is our garden at Arbor B&B in Prince George and city parks are looking great! The Prince George Citizen newspaper this morning announced that Connaught Hill Park will be opened this weekend a full three weeks earlier than the previous record.

The Olympic spirit in Prince George

Our recent guests Melanie Houlden and Harvey Wright from New Westminster enjoyed 4 days of great skiing at the Otway Nordic Ski Trails located less than 15 minutes from Arbor Bed and Breakfast in Prince George. They were fortunate to meet one of our local 2010 Olympic Torch runners who was of course very happy to pose for a picture.

Peter and I skiied at Otway yesterday and the trails are still in very good condition.

Last Tuesday Night we went to Cimo Mediterranean Grill in Prince George for a celebratory dinner. I routinely refer our Arbor Bed and Breakfast guests and thought it was a good opportunity to see what Chef Wayne Kitchen was creating first hand.

We were accompanied by foodie friends from Vancouver and I was hoping the dinner and service would be all I remembered on our last visit.

The service, wines and meals were superb and I would heartily recommend Cimo for an intimate dinner of fresh and interesting items.
